My girls and I think Mrs. Portillo is a great violin teacher!  She keeps my more advanced student V challenged but not overwhelmed, giving attention to the details of how she plays and how she could play better.  When an elbow problem threatened V’s ability to play violin for longer times, Mrs. Portillo made sure to check in on how her arm was feeling and gave her pieces that were less arm-intensive.  And I appreciated how Mrs. Portillo started my beginner students together when they were very new, and then split them to separate lessons when the time was right.  Her tactful handling of any sibling rivalry kept the lessons on track, and she brought any ongoing concerns to me quickly so we could address them together.   I am very grateful for the convenience of her online lessons.  All three students are making progress and enjoying their violins, and I am enjoying listening to them play!   I would recommend Mrs. Portillo to anyone interested in starting or advancing on the violin.
