I didn’t get my start in music with private lessons.
I started playing the violin in a group class almost 35 years ago…and yet still went on to get a music degree!
I spent 3 years in group music classes before I ever took a private lesson. All of those classes were “traditional”, meaning I had to learn to read music and play lots of slow exercises before I reached anything that really sounded like a song. And 25 years ago, when I first started teaching, I taught the same way I had learned.
But almost 10 years into teaching music myself, I discovered there were better, faster ways to get the same results for beginners as the old “read first” approach. After all, we study an instrument so we can really play it…so why not start with what we’re really after, first thing?
(I do love music theory, I just save it for later these days!)
Our group strings program is designed specifically for different age groups to develop the skills to get a good sound and play real songs as quickly as possible.
This group strings program includes:
This level 1 class is 8 weeks long and designed just for brand new beginners who are adults! Learn violin, viola, cello, or double bass - Violins provided for students to use during class if they don't have their own yet. This class will become an ongoing ensemble after the fall session, so you can keep your new hobby going. Class size limited to 10 students - get all the details and enroll here!
These level 2 ensemble classes are for students who have completed the level 1 class, are taking private lessons, or have other previous playing experience. You can enroll in a single session or send a message to enroll with the ongoing monthly rate.
